150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
Embassy of India organized Gandhi@150 celebrations today to mark the 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi, which was well attended by Ambassadors of several countries, Diplomatic corps, Saudi nationals, journalists and Indian Diaspora. Addressing the gathering of the prominence and relevance of Gandhian principles even today, Ambassador H. E Ahmad Javed released the commemorative postage stamps of Mahatma Gandhi and a portrait of Gandhi, painted by a Saudi female artist Ms. Nadia Al- Yusuf. A medley involving artists from 124 countries lending voice to Mahatma Gandhi's favourite song 'Vaishnav Jana To' was released. Saudi youth Ahmed Al-Maimany was part of the medley from the Kingdom. The school students of IISD performed a mind-catching play and musical skit on Mahatma titled 'Legend for Eternity' and ' A Mission, A Vision' underscoring the life of Gandhi and Govt of India's flagship initiatives in line with Gandhian ideologies. The Embassy facade was lit by led projection of Gandhian principles. Ambassador also felicitated the Saudi artists and the School students.
Embassy of India, Riyadh in association with King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, Riyadh organized a lecture (26/9) to mark the 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi Birth anniversary. An eminent speaker Ms. Shobhana Radhakrishna delivered the lecture, titled ‘Transformational leadership of Mahatma Gandhi’, which was well attended by Diplomatic corps, Saudi officials and businessmen, journalists and Indian diaspora. She also addressed the students of International Indian School, Riyadh. Air India were the ticket sponsors for the event.
